NORDIS is shortcut for Northern Dispatch Information Service.

From 1989 to 2001, Nordis operated as a news and features service, disseminating our stories weekly in mimeographed (later risographed and emailed) packets. Our topical focus was mainly on the Cordillera region.

In October 2002, Nordis converted itself into a regional weekly newspaper covering the three regions of Northern Luzon, namely Ilocos, Cordillera, and Cagayan Valley regions. The paper's full name is Northern Dispatch Weekly (NDW), but we are more popularly known as simply Nordis.

The printed edition of Nordis Weekly comes out every Sunday, and is distributed in all but two provinces of Northern Luzon. For now, we have a small circulation, but we are steadily growing.

NORDIS retains its original meaning and mission as Northern Dispatch Information Service. We are offering databank, Web and wire services to complement Nordis Weekly. This aspect of our work remains at the rudimentary stage (hence the skeletal form of this website!), but we are determined to expand this part of our mission.

The NORTHERN MEDIA AND INFORMATION NETWORK (NMIN) was officially founded on March 16, 2002.

NMIN is a network of media and information activists working within and among peoples’ grassroots organizations and communities in both indigenous and non-indigenous, rural and urban areas of Northern Luzon.

Our main work consists of assisting these organizations and communities in setting up and sustaining grassroots media alternatives and capability-building projects.

In the past two years, our work has been focused on the following:

  • publishing Northern Dispatch Weekly (NDW, also known as Nordis Weekly), a non-profit regional weekly newspaper;
  • setting up a databank and wire service that complements the work of NDW;
  • implementing a grassroots media training program;
  • setting up a multimedia projects desk; and
  • lending various technical support towards setting up community radio stations.
