NPA heightens offensives in NL

BAGUIO CITY (Apr. 2) — Members of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)-New People’s Army (NPA) of the Ilocos, Cordillera and Cagayan regions conducted several tactical offensives this March and April. The offensives caused the death of 29 and wounded 22 soldiers from different batallions of the Philippine Army. The said offensives led to the death of one and wounded six NPA guerillas.

Seven soldiers died and nine others were wounded from the 45th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army (IBPA) during a tactical offensive of the NPA’s Filomena Asuncion Command (FAC) in Barangay Panninan, San Mariano Isabela on April 2. Two of the wounded soldiers are in critical condition.

According to Salvador del Pueblo spokesperson of the said command, there were no casualties on the part of the red armies.

Before the said encounter, the militaries arrested Jojo Francisco, single and a farmer of Sitio Binagwan Brgy. Ueg, San Mariano Isabela at around 6 a.m. He was tied and physically tortured. He was even fired at, but he luckily managed to run away.

According to del Pueclo, an unidentified farmer of San Mariano was kidnapped on April 6 and is still missing as of press time.

To date, combat operations of the 45th IBPA in the barangays of Panninan, Gangalan, Balagan, Macayucayu, Ueg, Libertad and Gangalan in the town of San Mariano, Isabela continue. The operations started on April 1 this year.

According to an e-mailed statement, NPA commands operating in the Cordillera and Ilocos region conducted eight separate offensives.

On March 11 the Lejo Cawilan Command (NPA-Kalinga) killed one soldier from the 21st IBPA in a separate offensive in Barangay Mabilong, Lubuagan, Kalinga.

The Leonardo Pacsi Command (NPA-Mountain Province) killed four and wounded four soldiers from the 54th IBPA in four separate offensives. The said NPA command lost one red fighter and one wounded in the said offensives.

The Agustin Begnalen Command (NPA-Abra) in four separate offensives killed 17 and wounded 10 soldiers from the 41st IBPA. Five guerillas from the said NPA command were wounded during the said offensives. # via NORDIS
