In commemoration of International Womens Day TABUK, KALINGA (April 7) — Women from three barangays of Uma, Lubuagan celebrated the International Women’s Day by discussing national and local issues that affect their sector. The activity happened on March 31, 2006 at Ag-gama, Western Uma. Different issues affecting women today were discussed by Gloria Gatan, the vice-president of Uma Women in Action (UWA). The participants discussed the issues on the mining applications that affect the people of Uma, a sub-tribe of Kalinga dependent mainly on agriculture. They also discussed the expanded value added tax (EVAT) which led to the participants’ signing of a petition paper against EVAT. The women also planned and gave out tasks in preparation for 2006 Cordillera Day considering that they are the host community. The one day activity was organized by UWA, Innabuyog, Episcopal Church Women (ECW), Kalipi, and RIC. It was supported by the barangay officials of the three barangays of Uma. # Jimmy Suwagon for NORDIS Post your comments, reactions to this article |
