Visually-impaired tops Easter College centennial graduates

BAGUIO CITY (Mar. 30) - “Maximize everything that you have and do things while you have the chance to do them,” Chester Stone P. Batnag says, a visually impaired student of Easter College who graduated Cum Laude with the Degree Bachelor of Secondary Education, Major in Mathematics, at the multi-purpose hall of Easter College on March 29.

He is also a recipient of the Journalism Award for his various journalistic endeavors. He participated in the 6th Regional Higher Education Press Conference held at the University of Baguio on January 16-18, 2006. He placed 3rd in Poetry Writing (English). He qualified in the Luzon-wide Tertiary Press Conference held on February 9, 2006 at the Regent Hotel in Naga City and bagged 10th place in the same category.

Likewise, his writing skills made him a regular contributor of Feature Articles for the Idle Times, a monthly magazine produced by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Northern Dispatch (Nordis), a weekly newspaper circulated in the Cordillera, Ilocos and Cagayan Regions since 2005. He uses the pen name ‘Blind Poet”.

He passed the preliminary selection for the 2006 Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines-Cordillera Administrative Region (TOSP-CAR). The final result will be known after the final screening/interview on April 5.

His other achievements include: 1st place in Oration YMCA Decathlon 2003; Overall Champion in Northern Luzon 3rd Earth Science Super Quiz Bee 2003(UP Baguio) ; and 4th place- Science Quiz Bee2004 in BCFU.

He is the son of the late Eng. Andrew Batnag and Dr. Norma Pogeyed Batnag of Pinsao, Baguio City. His family hails from Sagada, Mt. Province. # Cleofe Kollin and Fermina Brillo for NORDIS
