40 DAYS. Youth organizations in Baguio City remembered Cadet Darwin Dormitorio and demanded justice for his torture and killing on the 40th day of his death at the main gate of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA). The group also held a short program at the city’s Malcolm Square where they also condemned the culture of violence inside military institutions and hazing. Dormitorio, a PMA plebe, died after suffering torture from upper class cadets inside the academy. He was found slumped and without a pulse inside his room on September 18, 2019, and was laid to rest on September 25, 2019. The incident forced PMA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista and PMA Commandant of Cadet Brigadier General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro to resign from their posts citing command responsibility. Photos by Sherwin De Vera
