Resolution to call for GMA to step down from office

Whereas, we can no longer prolong our agony as we continue to suffer under a woman president who has become a hindrance to the economic and political empowerment of Filipino women.

Whereas, we were witness to how the impeachment complaint was killed in Congress by Mrs. Arroyo’s allies. Our rights are continuously trampled upon as this government uses government funds for pay-offs to cover-up its crime. The gag order to government officials to participate in legislative hearings and the “no permit-no rally” policy are indications that Mrs. Arroyo is bent on clinging to power by all means. We cannot let these continue.

Whereas, we cannot continue to suffer unprecedented poverty brought about by the Value Added Tax, unemployment, increases in the prices of oil and basic commodities and the deprivation of basic services.

Whereas, we cannot allow our children to inherit a government that tolerates fraud and corruption, a leadership that breeds poverty, violence and injustice. GMA is a shame to our nation and a shame to all women who once rejoiced in having a second women president.

THEREFORE, LET IN BE RESOLVED IN THIS 5™ REGIONAL CONGRESS OF INNABUYOG-GABRIELA TO:

CALL for a government that can freeze or bring down prices of commodities and utilities, provide gainful employment, higher wages, and decent housing for its citizens, education for its youth, free hospitalization for the sick and infirmed, and social services that are either free, affordable, or accessible.

CALL for an alternative governance that will be transparent and moral, that will uphold the interests of our people, of women and our families.

CALL FOR THE IMMEDIATE OUSTER OF GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO AS PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINE REPUBLIC!

Done on this 20th of October, 2005, Baguio City.
