Free Beltran now

The Supreme Court again issued an important decision in relation with the fundamental freedoms.

Last June 5, the SC issued an status order which stopped the Department of Justice (DOJ) from prosecuting the rebellion case against Anakpawis Party List Representative Crispin Beltran, the Batasan 5, and 40 others, most of whom are leaders of militant organizations. As a result, the lawyers for Beltran led by Romeo Capulong will file a motion to immediately release him with the SC order as its legal basis.

The SC order had again proven one thing: that the cases are concocted by the DOJ headed by Sec. Raul Gonzales as part of grand design to silence the critics of GMA, particularly the legal left leaders. In doing this the government, through Gonzales, did not only deprive Beltran of his functions as representative of the poor and the oppressed. It is a sinister act to handcuff Beltran out of the GMA controlled House of Representatives and mangle pro-people measures that he (Beltran) introduced like the P125 across the board daily wage increase, among many others. The government also violated Beltran’s freedom as his arrest is illegal from the very beginning and illegally detained for nearly four months now since February.

Rep. Beltran had suffered much from this illegal act. Let us all call for his release immediately so that he could resume his pro-people functions in the House.

As the SC pointed out the excesses of this administration, the people must act together, too, to have Gonzales out of office before he uses his position and functions to perpetuate another injustice. #
