Taking the gag off

The Supreme Court’s (SC) decision declaring Executive Order 464 unconstitutional is a victory not only for anti-Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo groups in the Senate and the Lower House but also for the entire Filipino nation and a set back for the repressive GMA regime. EO 464 is the directive of GMA which regulated the appearance of public officials in investigations or hearings conducted by the legislative department.

Now that the SC has decided on ED 464’s constitutionality, the House of Representatives and Senate should reinvestigate cases prematurely closed or concluded because of non-appearance of key government and military officials like the Garci tapes and the alleged electoral fraud in Mindanao.
Furthermore, measures must also be enacted to ensure that another EO 464 will never be entertained.

Finally, the masterminds of the EO 464 must be made accountable for their unconstitutional act by filing the appropriate cases in court and their exclusion from public office as they have proven to have betrayed the Filipinos by promoting selfish and vested interest. #
