Oust GMA now!

The act by which GMA has admitted that “lapse in judgment”, no matter how insincere and how it was done in bad faith is due mainly to the Filipino people’s clamor for the truth to be made public. Indeed, that admission of a lapse was worthless. The whole point now is that GMA must resign.

Yet, with poorly rehearsed lines and facial expressions (ask Urian awardee Susan Roces), GMA has the guts to expect the Filipino people to forgive and forget, and let her continue with the business of governing.

Strictly, she has not admitted to the crime of it all — electoral fraud and betrayal of public trust, which makes the entirety of her antics a failure. Now, with the half-truth she managed to muster, the next best, noblest thing for her to do is to step down. The one good thing about deposed Pres. Joseph Estrada is that he was voted in office. No sweet short way to it. But GMA, as Ms. Roces puts it, stole the presidency not only once, but twice.

The “lapse in judgment” cannot pass history with a televised apology (belated troubleshooting, if you must). This “lapse” is a crime against the Filipino people that must be tried and given due sanction.

The House of Representatives, who appear to be pressing for an impeachment, are only doing it for a show — the House is dominated by GMA’s minions, lest we forget.

Some may have been moved by her June 27 pronouncement, but we must not forget the countless offenses she has caused the Filipino people, from denying the basic democratic rights of the basic sectors, to political repression, grave human rights violations, anti-people policies… the list goes on.

The last thing we would like to hear from her is a justification of a lapse in judgment in all these crimes against the Filipino people. The gathering storm outside Malacañang is a clear pronouncement that her days may be numbered.

GMA has lost her moral ascendancy to govern. Momentarily, the trick question is: Sino ang papalit?

Clearly, we do not want Noli de Castro doing a Gloria (but nonetheless, Kabayan is pretty confident that he can handle the presidency).

The best option offered to the public so far is the transition council.

Bayan Muna’s proposal for a transition council could be the best solution to gradually abate the presidential crisis. At least, with this, the Filipino people are able to uphold their right to vote, to exhaust their options for the presidency.

The convergence of multiple political forces and groups opposed to the GMA government may just be the tactical solution to this conundrum.

To GMA who has once more shown her trademark arrogance and subservience to imperialist powers, do not push it. It is you who has been pushed to the wall. Do the Filipino people a favor. Why wait for the people to evict you? Resign now. #
