Baguio nurses decry red-tagging

In a press conference on April 4, the dean of the University of the Cordilleras College of Nursing Judith Magwilang together with officials of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) asserted that nurses or anybody for that matter, fighting for just wages and stable jobs and advocating peace do not deserve to be vilified nor be associated with any armed groups.

Group protests jeepney phase-out anew

Jeepney drivers and small operators in the city staged another protest on Wedsnesday, December 5, against the impending phase-out of jeepneys under the public utility vehicles modernization program of the government. USOK: Small Scale Miners’ Livelihood in Peril

On September 17, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy Cimatu issued a ban on pocket mining in the Cordillera. The directive is Cimatu’s response after a massive landslide hit the mining town of Itogon at the height of Typhoon Ompong. More than a month after, thousands of families continue to look for alternative livelihood, with some already burried in debts.
