Abra mayor, councilor busted for drugs

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet (Feb. 13) — A mayor, councilor and three others were arrested after authorities seized illegal drugs and paraphernalia from them last Saturday, February 10 in Bangued , Abra.

Langiden Mayor Felix Angeles Castillo, 67; his son Danglas Concilor Nonito Wilbur Castillo, 33; Evelyn Pudok Castillo, 37; Cristina Bobido Molina, 20; Diony Macario Trinidad, 32 and Rodel Trinidad, 29 were arrested after Task Force Abra police raided the mayor’s house and allegedly seized shabu and drug paraphernalia from them.

Authorities allegedly confiscated some 150 grams of shabu, a shabu weighing scale, shabu kit and other shabu paraphernalia in Castillo’s house.

Violation of Section 6 (maintaining drug den) of Republic Act 9165 was lodged against Castillo while violations of Section 5,11,12,15 (pushing,use and possession of illegal drugs and paraphernalia) were filed against Nonito, Evelyn, Molina, Trinidad, and Rodel.

The courts recommended no bail for Castillo and company.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Cordillera Chief Supt. Oliver Enmodias said the mayor’s house was a suspected drug den. He added that Nonito is at the PDEA 2007 hit list and also tagged as the leader of the “Itong Group”, closely monitored by authorities.

Nonito was already arrested last year along a checkpoint due to drugs possession but the courts dismissed his case. # Ace Alegre for NORDIS
