BAGUIO CITY — Total funds raised by the Baguio Centennial Parks Committee for fencing Burnham Park has reached four million pesos reported Rolly de Guzman, treasurer.

De Guzman reported to Bishop Carlito Cenzon the Vice-Chairman of the Baguio Centennial Commission and BCPC Chairman Victorino Agcaoili last Thursday that the Burnham Park Fencing Project has raised the amount since the project started in October 2008. This amount coming from 73 fully and partially paid adopters.
Of the total amount of P4,072,889, the amount of P3,715,441.25 has been spent on the construction of the fence and other activities as part of the promotion of the project and the beautification of the area around it.

Bishop Cenzon told the group that the response from former residents in other countries has been encouraging. The support for the preservation of the icon of Baguio shows their recognition of the 100 years old legacy. Bishop Cenzon said that many stories and memories of Burnham Park are part of growing up in the city. “Those who have left Baguio will always look back to memories at Burnham Park,” he mused.

Agcaoili said that the growing partnerships with other groups in the city are also part of the one year success of the project. He cited the participation of the National Service Training Program (NSTP) students of the National Institute of Information Technologies led by Vladimir Cayabas in the landscaping of the area fronting the fence. He said that the students remarked that it was the least that they could do for the city that hosts their studies.

Bishop Cenzon said that the companies like the Benguet Electric Cooperative and the Baguio Water District have shown their corporate social responsibility as they participate in many projects of the city apart from the fencing of Burnham Park.

However, Bishop Cenzon said that many non- government groups and institutions have likewise supported the project already and expressed his appreciation for their enthusiasm.
“We hope to complete the project in a few more years with the help of more groups and families,” he said. # nordis.net
