LAGAWE, Ifugao —The passionate campaign of the provincial government here and other concerned agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to assist the One Town One Product (OTOP) of the province resulted in the production of Terraces Brew, which is now making good in the market

Gerardo Nanglegan, of the Haggiyo Enterprise Development Program (HEDP) Office, a division under the Office of the Provincial Governor said that the Terraces Brew came out so fast from the passionate campaign of the provincial government and DTI to come up with a. homegrown coffee package.

According to Nanglegan, the project concept was sold to interested takers and it was Unique Savings and Credit Coop, a cooperative in Banaue that grabbed the first offer.

Terraces Brew started off with two employees and a cash amounting to P112,000 pooled from coop members. This amount augmented by another P50,000 released by the Provincial government was the seed money that was used for the purchase of raw material and marketing

The Terraces Brew was launched on April 12, and there was no stopping from there. There was warm reception that total sales amounted to P100,000. More sales and orders ensued because the product has reached provinces outside Ifugao, and even as far as the Visayas,” Nanglegan said.

With the growing market demand for the product, raw material sustainability has become a challenge giving the coop and government partners the issue on continuous supply of coffee beans. “The province is the primary source and Mt. Province and Kalinga are being eyed for more supply of coffee,” he said.

Nanglegan said there are plans to put up a coffee processing facility and a coffee shop in Banaue. Once that happens, it puts a seal of employment sustainability for coffee farmers province wide he added. # Vency D. Bulayungan/PIA-Ifugao
