Anti-public urinating ordinance passes first reading in Baguio City

< 1 MIN READ

BAGUIO CITY (Feb. 5) — In an omnibus motion, members of the city council here approved on first reading an ordinance to penalize persons who will be caught urinating in public places which are not designated as ‘urinating area’.

The proposed Anti-Public Urinating Ordinance will include public roads, streets, terminals, public markets and the likes all over Baguio. A fine of P500.00 to P1,500.00 or six-month imprisonment will be imposed on each violator caught upon the enactment of the proposed ordinance.

The move to make public urinating illegal was introduced by Hon. Rocky Thomas Balisong. One of his staff explains that the proposed ordinance was in response to a reader’s letter recently published in a certain community paper regarding the disrespect and indecency projected by some public utility vehicle drivers operating in Baguio who constantly urinate wherever they felt the need to.

Accordingly, the Anti-Public Urinating Ordinance aims to instill discipline and encourage the practice of proper public decorum to uplift the indecent image some citizens had earned by such practice.

As the proposal indicate in order to instill discipline…stiff penalty should be imposed to all persons urinating in public places in the City of Baguio.# Danica Sophia E. Oliveros for NORDIS
