Indigenous students benefit from NCIP scholarship
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (Nov. 22) – Some 820 indigenous students in the Ilocos Region are among the beneficiaries of the government’s P85 million scholarship program.
According to Secretary Domingo F. Panganiban of the National Anti-Poverty Commission, the government has allotted P85 million for the said scholarship program for school year 2008-2009.
The government intends to benefit 13,100 indigenous students through the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Educational Assistance Program (EAP). The said scholarship allots P5,000 per semester for college students, P2,500 for high schools and P1,000 for elementary per school-year. # Renee F. De Guzman/PIA La Union
LTO official reports violations
SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela (Nov. 22) — Land Transportation Office – Santiago City Chief Domingo Pazon said LTO registered 29 violations of transport laws from January to October, here.
Pazon said these violations includes driving using student permit without a professional driver accompanying the student driver, unregistered vehicles, drivers not using seat belts and proliferation of colorum vehicles. # PIA Isabela
Gov. Padaca swears in village officials
ILAGAN, Isabela (Nov. 22) — Newly elected Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials took oath before Governor Grace Padaca at the Capitol Amphitheater yesterday, November 21.
Padaca urged the new officials to help spur progress progress in the province through their respective offices.

Region 2 holds Statistics Quiz elimination
TUGUEGARAO CITY (Nov. 21) — The National Statistics Office (NSO) in coordination with the Philippine Statistical Association (PSA) recently conducted the 2007 Philippine Statistics Quiz regional elimination at the University of Saint Louis (USL) auditorium.
Ms. Shayne Ibañes, a BS Accountancy freshman student of USL was named regional champion besting eleven other contestants from different colleges and universities in the region.
Cesar Mathew Madria of St. Paul University Philippines placed second and Rachelle Joy Milliona of the Quirino Polytechnic College placed third. # PIA Cagayan
