Isabela officials seek dam, power plant construction
SAN MARIANO, Isabela (Sept. 26) — The provincial government proposed to the national government the construction of a dam and a hydro-electric power project in this town to increase additional crop production and will generate additional power for the government.
The proposed project is now under study by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and the provincial government has tapped a project coordinator who will study further the possible irrigation and power generation benefit for Isabelinos. # PIA Isabela
Most Bocaps not qualified for re-election
TUGUEGARAO CITY (Sept. 25) — Incumbent punong barangays cannot run for the same position in the coming October 29 barangay elections because they are covered by the three consecutive term limit ruled under the law as contained in the an advisory of DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno citing Sec. 2 of RA 9164.
In the Luzon the Cagayan Valley Region has the most number of third-termer punong barangays with 713 or 31% of the total 2,311 punong barangays in the region. # PIA Cagayan
3 sites eyed for proposed Alaminos int’l airport
ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan (Sept. 24) — Three sites have been checked out by the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) as possible location of a proposed international airport to be built here starting next year at a cost of nearly half a billion pesos.
The DOTC team inspected the areas at the boundaries of Alaminos with Sual, Alaminos with Mabini and Sual with Bani which are large flat agricultural lands and are not flood-prone. # PIA-Pangasinan
Rare giant sea turtle released
ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan (Sept. 24) — A rare giant sea turtle (pawikan) was released shortly after it was turned over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
Celso Salazar, CENRO for western Pangasinan, said the sea turtle was released in Baquioen Bay, Sual, soon after Dr. Carlito Arenas, director of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Dagupan City turned it over.
Salazar estimated the sea turtle to be from 15 to 18 years old. # PIA-Pangasinan
Re-opening of Cauayan airport sought
CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela (Sept. 27) — The city council here passed a resolution seeking to reactivate the domestic airport which remained dormant for more than two decades.
Vice–mayor Bartolome Malillin predicted boost in the city’s economy as he expected investors lured to put their money into good, fast and efficient mode of transportation. # PIA- Isabela
