Baguio Council commends honest cab driver

BAGUIO CITY — The members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Baguio awarded a commendation to an honest taxi driver who was recognized on local and national news.

During the flag ceremony of Baguio City Government employees at the City Hall, the councilors headed by SP member Elmer Datuin handed the certificate of commendation and appreciation to cab driver Dennis Ogoy.

The council recognition was a jointly drafted resolution titled “Commending Mr. Dennis M. Ogoy, a taxi driver and a member of the Kabalikat Civicom Pines Central Chapter, Baguio City, for his honesty, vigilance and dedication to his profession thereby bringing prestige and pride to himself and the city of Baguio as a whole” . It was approved all by the councilors during their regular session on October 22 this year.

On September 17, 2012 at around 11:30 PM, Ogoy who then was on duty was flagged by a passenger along Military Cut Off Road and who requested to be ferried to a hotel along Leonard Wood Road. After bringing the passenger to his destination, Ogoy proceeded to Session Rd where he was flagged by another passenger and was asked to be brought to Labsan Street.

When the passenger was about to get out of the taxi cab, Ogoy noticed that the passenger was carrying a bag when he remembered that he had none before getting inside his vehicle. Out of his vigilance, he immediately pulled the bag from the passenger.

After a light argument, Ogoy proposed that he and the passenger go to the police station to sort out the matter. The passenger acceded and left the bag to the driver. The cabbie then brought the bag to the police station atop Session Road. An inventory of the contents of the bag revealed a laptop, Ipad, cellphone and a wallet with cash and important documents. The total worth of the bag was estimated at P100,000.00.

The owner of the bag was identified as Raymond Armamento, a manager of Jollibee Food Corporation. He was here in Baguio to attend a business seminar. He was able to claim the bag the next morning.

Married to Diana, a father of three namely Denise Joyce, Doreen Ellyza and Dominique Ann. On the SP resolution it stated that Ogoy was not blinded by greed but adhered to his beliefs, vigilance and honesty which was recognized on the news on nationwide television. It added that he has brought pride to his family and the city as a whole and shall serve as a role model to the other citizens of Baguio.

It also mentioned that the resolution of commendation is awarded to Ogoy to remind the citizens of the hospitality, honesty and dedication of the people of City of Baguio. # nordis.net
