BAGUIO CITY — Sangguniang Panglunsod member Isabelo Cosalan proposes a resolution requesting the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) to prepare a comprehensive land use plan (CLUP) for the 1,385,533 square meter parcel of land identified for the City’s Multipurpose use located at Barangays Camp 7, Bakakeng and Sto. Tomas.
Cosalan, during the regular city council session at City Hallsaid there were requests from private and public institutions and agencies for the city government to provide lands for their programs and services. They stated that the said tract of land could be collectively utilized by both the government and the private sector.
Cosalan explained that the purpose of a CLUP over the lot is for better guidance for the utilization of the area for any intended purposes. The councilor said that the collective development of the lot is one way of extending development opportunities in various part of the city. He also hopes that it should be an effective way to decongest the Baguio central business district.
Suggested priority uses of the city land located at Camp 7, Bakakeng and Sto. Tomas are forest and ecological sanctuary, a possible area for another Baguio City Jail Building, housing area, government school site, retirement and hospice facility, city government satellite office and engineered sanitary land fill.
Earlier, Cosalan filed a proposal with the city council for the designation and segregation of a 20,000 square meter portion of the said tract of the city land as a site for the Baguio City jail. The proposal was drafted by the councilor after the Baguio City Jail warden asked the city government for assistance in finding a place to build a new site for a new city jail as the present jail facility can no longer hold the increasing population of inmates and their office.
Members of the city council decided to refer the Cosalan’s proposal to the CPDO to study and make recommendations regarding the proposal for a new jail site. # nordis.net
