BAGUIO CITY — Five families evacuated to the Day care center of Barangay Bulalacao after the ground where their house were standing in Stio Tabbak sunk about 100 meters in the afternoon of August 3.
According to Save Mankayan Movement (SMM) President Marlou Pablo, the residents of Barangay Bulalacao already observed large cracks in their area as early as March of this year. He said that they reported this to the authorities then.
Pablo said that the cracks widened and the soil softened because of the continuous rains brought by the South West monsoon an effect of Typhoon Gener. He also said that the incident can not be simply called landslide as they observed that the area sunk.
“Agyaman kami ta awan ti nadangran, ti nadadael ket dagidiay balbalay, adda ti limned, adda ti nagsikig a delikado nu matumba,” (We are grateful that no one was hurt, the houses were destroyed, some sunk with the soil and one is already leaning and may collapse anytime.) added Pablo.
Pablo said that municipal officials went to inspect the sinking area on Saturday. He said that they chipped in some assistance extended to the families affected. # nordis.net
