LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Three hundred new members of the Liberal Party (LP) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) took oath on June 25 at the Benguet State University (BSU) closed gym.

The said new members are local officials and sectoral leaders from the provinces of Ifugao, Benguet, Mountain Province, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao and Baguio City. The rite was administered by Secretary of Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and LP President Mar Roxas and witnessed by President Benigno Aquino III.

Benguet Lone District Representative Ronald Cosalan welcomed the participants in the activity. According to the congressman, 80% of the political leaders in CAR are LP members. He explained that candidates for membership to the party should undergo a two-day basic orientation before being given full membership.

Aquino in his message claimed accomplishments of his administration, such as projects in public infrastructure, the improvement of the Tarlac, Pangasinan and La Union Expressway, which reduced travel time from Tarlac to Baguio from the usual four and a half hours to two hours. He said that LP hopes the new members help in the solid establishment of the Party in the provincial, district, municipal, and barangay level to ensure strong political influence.

Joining Aquino and Roxas are LP Executive Vice-President and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary Jesse M. Robredo and LP spokesperson and House of Representative Deputy Speaker Erin Tañada. In the oath taking ceremony, the party unveiled their slogan, “Sa Daang Matuwid, Asensong Walang patid.” # nordis.net
