BAGUIO CITY ( June 21) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) top brass admitted Thursday Congress is yet to approve additional funds for the stalled flyover at the Baguio General Hospital rotunda, here.

DPWH Dir. Mariano Alquiza said, it is Congress that would approve the additional P64 million to complete the BGH rotunda structure, it being funded from national budget. Originally, it was conceptualized to cost only P88 million, but according to Alquiza, the delay in the project implementation paved for increases in the price of construction materials.

Speaking to journalists after the forum on blended cement at the Baguio Country Club here, Alquiza disclosed that Advance Foundation Specialists, the contractor of the stalled flyover, agreed to have the remaining work fielded to sub-contractors. He said he would pressure the contractor of the BGH flyover project to finish the project in the wake of price increases of construction materials

Pedestrians and motorists keep wondering when the project would be completed. An ocular inspection on the site of the project shows no movement of equipment. Only occasional manual labor fix construction materials left at the site.

Earlier, before the staging of the Panagbenga Festival in February this year, city councilors launched an inquiry into the status of the project and asked DPWH to ensure traffic flow and the upkeep of the rotunda garden. # Lyn V. Ramo for NORDIS
