BAGUIO CITY — The Cordillera People’s Democratic Front (CPDF) expressed its “highest salute” to various groups of indigenous peoples and Moros from all over the Philippines for successfully coordinating the “Lakbayan ng Pambansang Minorya para sa Sariling Pagpapasya at Makatarungang Kapayapaan” and launching the Sandugo national alliance of IPs and Moros.
In a statement, the CPDF congratulated the national minorities – marching from the Cordilleras in northern Luzon and from as far as Mindanao in the south – for representing the unity and the advancement of the struggle for the right to self-determination and for genuine liberation.
It condemned the “open brutality” of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for the violent dispersal of a peaceful protest in front of the Embassy of the United States last October 19. “The harassment and hardships experienced by the so-called Lakbayanis exemplifies the centuries-old exploitation of the national minorities in the hands of the reactionary state and its imperialist master, the United States,” said CPDF spokesperson Simon “Ka Filiw” Naogsan, Sr.
According to Naogsan, the Lakbayan has raised the development of the indigenous peoples’ and Moro people’s struggle to a new level.
“The violence suffered by the participants of the Lakbayan at the hands of the state police only served as a punctuation mark to the notorious brutality of the fascist military and police in the urban and rural areas of the country,” he added.
National minorities, especially IPs and the Moro, have been subject to historical national oppression through the years by the combined pillage and aggression of the local reactionary state and US imperialism.
Massive foreign companies in mining, energy, and agri-business have been the largest land grabbers versus the national minorities, and the latter’s plight has further been aggravated by local landlords conniving with foreign firms in such operations.
In defense of the interests of big compradors, landlords and US imperialism, the state has depended on the fascist AFP, PNP, and paramilitary groups to inflict human rights violations upon the communities of IPs and Moros.
“These deeply-rooted causes breed the national minorities’ and Moro people’s willingness in their sheer numbers to join the armed revolutionary movement,” said Naogsan.
Naogsan claimed that for the national minorities, there is no other way to realize their right to self-determination and to liberate them from the age old national oppression “but the victory of the revolutionary armed struggle through the people’s war now being waged and advanced by the New People’s Army (NPA) in the countryside.”
“As the movement of the national minorities advances, so does the armed struggle in the countryside. The CPDF continues to pursue the advance of the revolutionary armed struggle of the Cordillera people alongside the other regions of the country through the national-democratic revolution,” concluded Naogsan. # nordis.net
