BAGUIO CITY — The Political Science Society of the University of the Cordilleras (PSS-UC) will hold a forum on the re-opened peace negotiations between the Philippine government (GPh) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) on July 6 from 1:00PM until 5:00PM at the UC Auditorium.
The forum is open to all interested individuals free of charge.
It can be recalled that negotiating panels of both parties met in Oslo, Norway last June and agreed to the resumption of the peace talks and reaffirmed the recognition of all past agreements forged by the NDFP and the Philippine government.
The forum dubbed “Peace Negotiations: promotion for lasting peace and justice”, was organized to promote awareness about the significance of the peace process.
The event also aims to educate the participants about the nature of the ongoing peace negotiations and the responsibilities that should be observed by both parties involved. Moreover, it would focus on what it takes to build just and lasting peace.
NDFP Chief Political Consultant and Communist Party of the Philippines founding chair Jose Maria Sison was invited as guest speaker, who will be conferred with via video call on Skype.
Tersor Araza of PSS-UC holds that the GPh-NDFP peace negotiations is a vital course to end the 47-year insurgency of the communists in the country. He said that in understanding the rationale and progress made by the previous talks, we too are taking part in resolving the cause of the continuing armed conflict. # nordis.net
