July 6, 2016
Kakailian Salakniban Tay Amin a Nagtaudan (Kastan CPA-Abra) strongly condemns the series of violence that occurred in the province of Abra since July 1. Two people have been killed and three were wounded, one victim is in critical condition and one other is a minor.
On July 1, 2016, Godofredo Marquez was shot dead at the farmers’ market in Bangued. The very next day, July 2, 2016, Bangued councilor and human rights lawyer Atty.Allen Brix Bachiller, was shot near the food court in Bangued. Also shot was Angelo Bachiller and 12-year-old Benjie Balaoro. The following day, July 3, Mardario Alcantara was shot at Ubbog, Bangued. The two deaths were on top the previously killed four individuals within May-June 2016, bringing the total post-election deaths to 6.
The latest string of violence and killings can be said to be a manifestation of warlordism in Abra. It is common knowledge for the people that those who carry out these executions are linked to private armed groups allegedly operated and maintained by some politicians.
We call on to the newly-sworn provincial officials led by Governor Jocelyn Valera-Bernos, Bangued Mayor Dominic Valera and to the Abra provincial police office to launch an impartial investigation to solve these atrocities committed against our fellow Abrenians. We also call on to President Rodrigo Duterte and to Philippine National Police Chief Ronald Dela Rosa to disarm and dismantle the private armed groups that sow terror in the streets of Abra.
Lastly, we call on all peace loving citizens join us condemn these treacherous acts committed against our fellow Abrenians. We must end the impunity that has long reigned our country by showing our unity especially during these trying times. Those who seek to sow terror in Abra wants us to cower in fear. If that happens, more will be victimized. Now is the time to make a stand!
Dismantle all private armed groups!
Justice for all victims of sense-less killings! Justice for Abra!
End Impunity now! # nordis.net
