BAGUIO CITY — The Commission on Election (Comelec) en banc continues to meet regularly despite the absence of Commissioner Andres Bautista, according to Commissioner Ma. Rowena Amelia Guanzon.
Guanzon, who visited the Comelec Cordillera regional office, on July 8, told reporters that the en banc still meets regularly every Thursday to discuss matters as scheduled. She said that Bautista has not been meeting with them for a month now.
“It is work as usual for us at the Comelec en banc especially we have a barangay election to prepare for,” Guanzon said. She said the en banc has recently approved the budget for the barangay election. She, however, did not say how much was approved.
“The barangay election will push through unless congress decides to postpone it again. But for us, we really want it to push through,” she said.
She reiterated that they have been wanting to talk to Bautista to settle some issues that include the delayed payment of teachers who served during the national election and the hacking of the Comelec website among others.
“When we asked for a meeting with him, he told us to just write our concerns so we came up with the memorandum,” she said.
She clarified that they only came up with a memorandum where they discussed their concerns and not a complaint or petition against Bautista. # nordis.net
