LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — The municipal council of Tuba, Benguet passed a resolution asking the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to allow the local government to implement infrastructure projects at Kabuyao, Sto. Tomas.
The Tuba council claimed that delayed implementation of these projects would affect Kabuyao’s environment. “Whereas, the delay in the implementation of these projects will greatly affect the environment of the said place and the Clean Air Act,” Tuba resolution 77 series 2015 read.
It can be recalled that the Court of Appeals granted the petition for Writ of Kalikasan over the Mt. Sto. Tomas forest reservation filed by environmentalists led by Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas and Baguio Bishop Carlito J. Cenzon last May.
The CA ordered a stop to all development activities within the reservation including the construction activities of Baguio Representative Nicasio Aliping in a property within the Sto. Tomas reservation and the filming of a popular television series.
Tuba officials in their resolution said the Writ also affected the town’s infrastructure projects. “Whereas, these projects cannot be implemented unless a clearance from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will be secured,” the resolution read.
Tuba council’s Resolution 77 mentioned three projects that include the construction of comfort rooms worth P500,000; garbage bins worth P200,000 and a water works system worth P1M. # nordis.net
